I’m taking another stab at this. Something inside me says that this is going to ultimately become my off-season replacement of the NFL Roundup. In reality, it already has. This is both a good and bad thing. On one hand, it showcases my ability to easily become a one-trick pony, limiting myself to only one format of writing. On the other hand, I should find solace in having a trick and something to write about once a week. I’m giving this one more shot, in hopes that it reaches a wider audience than the Roundup. In a perfect world, this could easily happen. As only a select few of my friends and acquaintances understand/enjoy/want to read about football, a hell of a lot more ride the trains and feel its wrath on the weekends. At least this time, I whipped up this sweet pornographic to put at the top of the article. At least there’s that. Uptown 1 and 2 Trains run express from Chambers St to 14th St I have to admit, the 1 train is pretty worthless to me. The only time I ever take it is when I make the rare excursion to Van Cortlandt Park. When [...]

I was reading the cover of AM New York the other day, because that’s what happens when I have 10 seconds to kill and words are in front of my face. I would just give you the link right here, but AM New York’s website is the suck and I don’t promote the suck. Just take my word for it. It displayed an overcrowded L train [or an undercrowded 5 train] and claimed that 61% of straphangers feel that service has gotten worse in the past 2 years. Let’s ignore the fact that only 700 people [or 3 train cars] were surveyed and take their argument at face value. The MTA has done very little to try to “improve” anything. In the past year, they have changed the robot voice from saying “Please be patient” to “Thank you for your patience”. This week, they also unveiled a new map to display the routes after hours [also famously known as "Dude, Where's My B Train?"]. You see, these are very minuscule improvements, but they are still improvements. I don’t know what exactly the 427 people were expecting, but making a transit system perfect is an almost impossible process. We’re talking about [...]

Phantom Songs is an ongoing series of musical pieces that you can’t quite put your finger on. You have most definitely heard the song before, but are most likely not able to pinpoint who made it, when it was released, and/or what the song is really about. All of the artist’s history and biography was either stolen from wikipedia or made up entirely. You could see the ’90s coming from a mile away. It was a multi-colored cumulus cloud in the distance, slowly raining upon America. Our immense fear of communism finally subsided, leaving us with a void in need of filling. Everything was changing: clothing was getting looser, TV was getting more raunchy and Rodney Dangerfield was deemed no longer funny. It was also around this time that we started accepting whatever garbage the Europeans wanted to send our way. Suddenly, music took on a whole new meaning. Instead of suggesting that things be done, now as music listeners, things were demanded of us. Enter Technotronic, a Belgian musical project [not a group, but a project. We aint talking bout no group. Not a group. We talking 'bout project] curated by Jo Bogaert. Although his personal history is vague, [...]

The best part of the season is officially over. I hope that you enjoyed it and acknowledged it as such. From here on out, it’s going to be nothing but bullshit. We’ll see players slandering their opponents as “the ones who suck dick”, sports analysts will spend the next two weeks sucking whatever blue dick comes into their path and Spike Lee will send a picture of his dick to [insert celebrity from Boston here]. Take a deep breath. Unless you want to get wrapped up in the hype [you don't], just consider the season over. Watch the Pro Bowl, if that’s your fancy and move on. This is kind of great if you think about it. We get a 3 week head start of continuing our normal existence. Unless…well…you follow other sports. In that case, we don’t have shit in common and I would love to direct you to the nearest hockey blog [It's over there. To your left]. There’s only one major problem. We all have friends. And those friends REALLY want to watch the Super Bowl. I’m sure it’s something that I’ve bitched and moaned about years prior. “ So two Sundays from now, you can see me sitting [...]

Dry your eyes, America. It’s not the end of the world. It’s just that the thing you expected to happen didn’t happen. You can’t blame the Packers and Saints for blowing it. You can only blame yourself for expecting it. Don’t get angry that Tim Tebow and TJ Yates didn’t pull through. You should be ashamed of yourself for having such bold predictions. A week full of upsets is a week that teaches us why they play the game. And if you didn’t hear about the games this week…well…I regret to inform you that the following things happened: San Francisco 49ers 36, New Orleans Saints 32 This is the game that we’re going to want 3 weeks from now, but surely won’t get. It’s that type of game that will be analyzed until the end of time. Years from now, or maybe even shorter than we expect, it will be playing on late-night NFL Network, with highlights narrated by the guy that does every NFL Films production [is that the same guy, or is it different people with a voice changer?] with his monotone voice that could put an elephant on PCP to sleep.
What’s the point of being the underdog, anyway? For the most part, the public will ignore you and the followers will only follow because they want to feel like they’re doing something special. The real science behind an effective underdog tells us that the team has to lose. If a team is underestimated and they go on a winning streak, then they become the “favorite underdog”. But then, if they do happen to get into the playoffs, against all odds, they have two choices: The can lose or risk losing their identity forever. Just look at the Packers. One year ago, nobody expected them to win it all, but now that they did and continue to be dominant, they have been deemed overrated. Every team that was officially considered to be the underdog this week took the first option and lost [with exception to the Steelers, who were seeded lower than the Broncos but still considered the favorite]. But on the bright side, at least the Lions, Falcons and Bengals can retain their underdog status into next season. Since the Wild Card round began its current structure in 1990, there has been only 2 home team sweeps. This was in [...]

I feel like I barely had to wish for January to come before it bestowed its presence on us. The regular season of the NFL is officially over and man do the playoffs look wacky. At the beginning of Sunday, there were 5 teams in the AFC competing for a playoff spot. Only one of them, the Titans, won their game. But they still didn’t make it into the playoffs. Instead, it was the Broncos and Bengals, who both lost, that will be playing next week. I tried reading over the tiebreaking procedures for Wild Card slots, but damn is it all confusing. I guess it probably has something to do with the Bengals playing in a tougher division and Andy Dalton being a better mascot than Matt Hasselbeck. Or it might have something to do with America’s refusal to watch Matt Hasselbeck play football. I don’t know. It doesn’t make much sense. All that I know is that even losers can make it into the post-season. Hell, just look at the Texans! New England Patriots 49, Buffalo Bills 21 I have to stop watching football with my roommate, Alex. Don’t get me wrong, I really do love having company [...]

Sometimes, you really have to hate the holidays. Whether it be entertaining guests, going to church, doing some last minute shopping or working your ass off in retail, you probably let a whole weekend of football pass you by. So, I suppose that’s why I’m here to break down this crucial week for you. So, let’s not waste any more of your/my time, because after all, we’re still way too busy. Minnesota Vikings 33, Washington Redskins 26 The treacherous reign of Adrian Peterson may be over. Okay, well, it might’ve been over for a while now. Although his stats stay up, it is clear that he cannot carry the Vikings to victories. In fact, 5 of the best running backs in the league belong to teams with 5 wins or less. Adrian Peterson cannot win games on his own, nor can he win games period. Now, he’s not going to be doing much of anything. If you didn’t notice or you sneezed during the clip, AP’s knee goes in the different direction. This could possibly be something that’s career-ending or definitely something that is career-altering. Needless to say, he’s never going to run the same way again.
I’m switching up the format again, because in the end, none of this really matters. With Christmas and the Playoffs lurking around the corner, everyone is itching to look ahead instead of looking back. What’s the point of talking about what happened on December 18 when we should be really talking about what’s going to happen on the 24th? So in the spirit of Christmas and Week 16, I’m giving you guys a brief preview of what will eventually be the Week 16 Roundup. Now, most of you may think that the matchups this week should be more stellar than the cast of the Expendables. However, we already know that it’s a rag-tag team of dipshits making the schedule and we also know that the Expendables was a horrible movie, but not the good kind of horrible, more like the horrible kind of horrible. So this preview will be ranked from low to high based on how many shits I could give about it. Because nothing goes better with football than pooping, am I right guys? Of course I am. I’m always right. Games I Could Only Give 1 Shit About Minnesota Vikings @ Washington Redskins I would rather clean [...]

It’s getting to be that time of year, folks. I don’t mean Christmas. I also don’t mean the end of the regular season. No sir. It’s that special time of year when NFL owners decide to pull the plug on their head coaches and do a little bit of holiday shopping for new ones. And why now? Because it just makes total sense to fire a head coach when there’s only 3 games left in the [presumably] abysmal season. Because an interim head coach is not only going to get into a groove in this short span of time, but he will also turn the whole friggin franchise around. Because it’s totally fine to fire somebody right before the holidays, as they don’t have any families to provide for. Because it’s the coach’s fault that all of the star players are injured or haven’t panned out the way that they were suposed to. Besides, when else are head coaches supposed to get fired? Playoffs? The offseason? Gitthefugouttaere! Pittsburgh Steelers 14, Cleveland Browns 3 Now that’s not a way to start a week in the NFL. When you sit down to watch a football game on a Thursday night, you’ll most [...]
